The Friends of Ridley Creek State Park are gearing up for the Annual Photo Contest, scheduled for Sunday, January 26th at the Mansion at Ridley Creek State Park in Media, Pa.

“The annual photo contest, now in its 10th year, was started years ago as a fundraiser, but more importantly to bring awareness to the “Friends,” the non-profit organization that serves Ridley Creek State Park,” according to Jack Miller, President and coordinator of this year’s event.
Ridley Creek State Park has been one of my favorite places to visit since moving to the area over twenty years ago, which is why I became involved with the Friends. The 2600 acres of the park is a photographer’s paradise. From the waterfall to the Frank Furness designed Mansion to the Colonial Plantation and all plants, animals and ruins in between. The park is beautiful in every season and it takes on an especially magical quality right after a snow.
This year’s judges will be Hank Schott, from Shots by Schott Photography and Danielle Alvaro, from Remember When Photography, LLC, bringing two different perspectives to this year’s event. Hank and Danielle will also be available to talk with photographers about their photos, offering one-on-one critiques; one of the favorite aspects of prior year’s events.

The photo award ceremony is set for Sunday, January 26, 2014 in the Hunting Hill Mansion ballroom (park office) starting at 1 pm. Anyone is welcome to come and enjoy refreshments, photo submissions and experience the park through the eyes of some of its favorite admirers. We are eager to see what our photographers come up with this year!
Deadline for submissions is Friday, January 24 at 4 pm at the park office.
Entry forms and contest rules are available at www.FriendsofRCSP.org, at the park office, or on the multi-use trail (look for box of flyers). Basically, everything is fair game from the Mansion itself to a caterpillar on a leaf–the only requirement is that all photos must be taken within Park boundaries.
This has been a great event over the years, attracting amateur photographers and nature lovers. If you have questions about the photo contest, call the Friends hotline at 484-442-0223 or you can also contact me.
